Traditionally, Memorial Day weekend is a time to honor the men and women who gave their lives in support of our country and can be a festive start to the summer season. However, it would not feel right for us to step into a new season without addressing the violence that occurred in Uvalde, Texas this past week.
Without question, gun violence in America is too common. There have been 214 mass shootings in the US during the first 145 days of the year. No other developed countries see these devastating numbers, and the deaths of the 21 victims from Uvalde should be a wake-up call to all of us. It is time to change our policies and practices instead of offering thoughts and prayers. Please join us in demanding reform, so we can focus on raising our children and not burying them.
